perhaps god farted and boom - the big bang created the universe.
as long as there's a gap in our knowledge, you can always fill it with a god. any god. but you might just focus on more important things like life instead.

God-guided Evolution
by serotonin_wraith init's a lot to get through, but if anyone gets through it all and disagrees with my position, i'd love to know why because i'd like to make this more solid.
i don't think i've covered everything yet.
also if you just have helpful pointers.

I'm kinda shakey
by Dagney injust got off phone with newly appointed elder friend.
at the end of the conversation, he says, "you know dagney, we need to have the conversation...the one about meetings...i want to see you in the new system....i think about you every day, everyday!!".
i was all cheerful "sure!!!

if he comes alone, you can talk normal... if you want to.
if he comes with another elder, then he does not come as a friend. and in case you want to fade, you'd better lie your butt off or just be quiet. they'll talk about mundane things first, but shortly before they leave, they'll let out the tough stuff. -

what we need:
- a theme
- a "resolution"
- a drama
- a list of talks
- some publications
- interviews
i would like a talk by leolaia about nebucadnezzars second uncle and a talk by tetrapod.sapiens about the "free will" meme, followed by the presentation of "the god delusion". the drama could be about a fader being hunted down by the elders and recommendations on how to avoid their calls. -

Jehovah's Witnesses are not a cult and here's why I think so
by B_Deserter inwhen most people think of "cult" they think of the people's temple, the branch davidians, or heaven's gate.
many also want to put jehovah's witnesses, mormons, and scientologists into this group.
i don't agree with that because there is one main difference between true cults and high-control groups like jws:.

sects, cults, religions... i don't care, their bad stuff by far outweighs their good stuff.

Throwing the Baby out with the Bathwater Goodbye Watchtower Hello Nothing?
by Magick inas witnesses who were deeply indoctrinated.
we accepted all of jehovah's witness teachings as a total package, it was "the truth".
there were no cracks in our armor that would allow other ideas, doctrines or thoughts to seep in.

hi destructo-girl! when it became clear to me that the truth(TM) aint true at all, i felt similar: a big depressing void in front of me. but that's just because i was used to have the society fill it up all the time. now it's time to fill the void yourself. at one point i suddenly was aware, that it's not a big depressing void, but a huge space without limits to be filled with free thought. when you start looking at it like this, you are so happy you aren't filled with all that crap anymore...

Avoiding an Elder
by R.F. ini'm almost six months past walking away from the religion, and one of the elders has risen and thrown a monkey wrench into my entire plan.
things have been great actually.
since i've managed to shed myself of congregation responsiblities, the elders have gotten off my back quite a bit.

just keep ignoring his calls, he'll eventually give up.
another thing that worked for me was calling back, and when the elder said he'd like to visit me, i just said i'm just too busy at the time.
and if nothing helps and they DO visit you, make sure that either only ONE of them comes along - or shut your mouth, no matter what you want to say. remember that they need 2 witnesses. you can tell anything you want to 1 elder (though it might be risky also), but never talk when 2 of them are there. -

Lying is okay
by Hiddenwindow inthere are several doctrinal explications in the wt literature about which the average jw is not aware.
one that has always puzzled me is the definition that the insight book gives to lying.
it explains that lying does not mean to provide false information, but that it means to give wrong information to whoever has the right to know.

that "i'd rather die than lie" is complete bull... i'd rather live.
the problem with the witnesses is, that they proclaim that they got the truth(TM) and that lying is wrong but still lie. -

Asinine JW comments
by 5thGeneration inmy sister said yesterday:.
"isn't it amazing how the watchtower and awake are so good that really we would only have to read them to know everything that's going on in the world!".

my mom told me something along these lines the other day. "i'm so glad we have the mags, you can find an article to EVERY topic and it's explained in a way everyone understands it". (we were talking about some medical treatment). i said, i'd rather let a doctor explain things to me. and where she thinks the awake-people get their texts from, they just copy'n'paste them from other mags and spice them up with fluffy panda bears and grass eating lions. but she just kept going - i started laughing and couldn't stop... she wasn't too pleased about me laughing ;)
